Preface

This exhibition is a continuation and in-depth exploration of the He Xiangning Art Museum's "Lingnan Style" academic series. Centered around the core theme of "Ink and Brush in Unity", it focuses on Lin Yong and Su Hua, the iconic artistic couple in contemporary Lingnan painting circles. It systematically traces their artistic journeys and creative achievements from their days as classmates pursuing the path of art and forging a lifelong bond, to more than sixty years of jointly devoting themselves to the development of the Lingnan art scene. The exhibition weaves its emotional narrative through the thread of "unity" and anchors its academic core in "Lingnan Integrity". Drawing on carefully selected original works, art sketches, plein air painting documents, video footage and other first-hand materials, it comprehensively presents the distinctive "powerful and resplendent" spirit of Lin Yong's ink figure paintings and Su Hua's bold, unrestrained artistic talent in both calligraphy and painting. While their artistic creations each possess unique characteristics and complement each other brilliantly, they stood by each other through life and worked in unison to pass down the artistic torch, vividly embodying the mutual fulfillment of art and life. Rooted in the Lingnan School of art's innovative lineage of reconciling Chinese and Western arts and integrating ancient and modern aesthetics, they inherit the reflective tradition of "brush and ink should evolve with the times".

Closely adhering to the He Xiangning Art Museum's founding philosophy of "building the museum with distinctive characteristics and prioritizing academic research", the exhibition upholds He Xiangning's original artistic aspiration of "expressing aspirations through painting and serving the country through art". It highlights the couple's unwavering adherence to, thoughtful deconstruction of and bold innovation in traditional brush and ink techniques, demonstrating the inclusive, open and dynamically evolving artistic vitality of contemporary Lingnan calligraphy and painting. In doing so, it infuses enduring academic impetus into the contemporary inheritance and widespread promotion of the Lingnan artistic lineage.
